the International Festival of Contemporary Ethnic Music the Spirit of Astana 2018 is held with the support of the Astana Akimat as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan. A grand three-day show starts on July 6, on the City Day. The Festival will be held in the Square in front of the Baiterek monument. The show starts at 17.00. Free entrance. The Chief director and manager of The Spirit of Tengri project and The Spirit of Astana Festival Sergey Maiboroda said:
"It is a great honor for us to hold a festival with the support of the Astana Akimat, the Birthday of our capital, which is a symbol of peace, development, prosperity, unity, a crossroads of world roads and cultures. Therefore, as a part of our Festival, we are also implementing this idea by inviting musicians from all over the world including the most famous artists in the ethno-world genre. This will be a live sound, a beautiful light show, delightful world music reflecting the cultural and musical values of all corners of the world. We are celebrating Astana's birthday with the whole world in the heart of the city - in the square at the Baiterek monument broadcasting the event to the global network. This is the holiday that we give to everyone!"
Members of GeoTRAIN band with the radio host Denis Maximov.
The founder of Georgian band GeoTRAIN Zurab Gagnidze added: "In Kazakhstan we always feel like home. The Spirit of Astana is associated with the warmest feelings and memories. It's always a friendly atmosphere. I see how the Festival has expanded culture wise, how it has grown. It's very encouraging, we see how the cultures are reborn, and it's very gratifying that the authorities support such projects. I see the Spirit of Astana as an indicator of how the state treats its culture with great care. "
Their congratulations were joined by the founder of Kerekes Band (Hungary) Zsombor Fehér:
"Kazakhstan is a unique place where modern and ancient original cultures get together and unite, we - Kazakhs and Hungarian - are relatives, we are related historically and culturally with so many things: music and ethnography are similar in many ways. We often feel like strangers, for example in Europe, even when we arrive in neighboring countries, we often do not feel at home, but whenever we arrive in Kazakhstan, we see and feel warm welcome and hospitality, we can confidently say, that we are treated here as brothers. We've never had this feeling before, for five years we've been dreaming of coming to your beautiful country for The Spirit of Tengri, and finally we're here. We are incredibly excited about this opportunity."
The Hungarian musician also shared what surprise they have prepared for the guests and online audeince of the show:
"We have recorded a Kazakh song specially for the Spirit of Astana Festival, but we do not want to say which one. It will be a surprise for the audience. When we heard this Kazakh melody, we fell in love with it and saw a parallel between Kazakh and Hungarian music, one structure, one logical line, one and the same feeling. A long time ago this melody was born here, and a little bit later it came to us in Europe in a modified form. Now it’s time we bring this music to Kazakhstan and show how it has changed. "
The arrival of the Kerekes Band was made possible thanks to the support of the Hungarian Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Astana residents and guests of the capital will enjoy the shows from 19 great bands from more than 20 countries. The musicians represent such far-abroad countries as Ireland, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Turkey, Japan, Mali, Hungary, Peru, the USA and India. The participants of the grandiose show include: Marga Muzika (Lithuania), GeoTRAIN (Georgia), Kerekes Band (Hungary), Indiogenes (Peru), musician Robert Yuldashev with the band "Quraisy" (Bashkortostan), The Doox (Ukraine) and Katya Yamschikova ( Bashkortostan), as well as collectives BaBa ZuLa (Turkey), Khoomei Beat (Tuva), Natig Rhythm Group (Azerbaijan), Jiggy (Ireland), Dirtwire (USA) and Red Baraat (USA / India), as well as Abbos (Uzbekistan), Aldaspan together with Baraban.KZ and Yedil & Satzhan Project (Kazakhstan).
