"Journey through time and space" The Spirit of Dance starts today
Today, at 19.00, the international festival of music and dance The Spirit of Dance 2018 will begin on the stage of the Central Concert Hall "Kazakhstan", Tengrinews.kz reports.
Musicians, dancers and DJs from 14 countries of the countries have already arrived in Astana, now they are busy with rehearsals. Laurita Pelenuite, Tadas Desukas (Lithuania), Alexander Arkhincheev (Buryatia), guests from Latvia - Laima Jansone, Uldis Cirulis (project ZeMe) and representatives of the Georgian vocal trio "SM" shared their impressions from Kazakhstan and the festival program. Also, the producer of the unique "seamless show" The Spirit of Dance and the general producer of The Spirit of Tengri project Zhan Kasteev, the main director of the project Sergei Maiboroda and the Head of Administration of the Festival Konstantin Golovin told about the final preparations for the Show.
The organizers of the unique "seamless" dance show are the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with The Spirit of Tengri project. The Spirit of Dance is the fourth festival of the project team and the first, in which a greater emphasis is placed on the dance part. Tickets for the unique show are still on sale. They can be purchased on ticketon.kz as well as at the box office of the Marwin Meloman store chain. Guests are welcomed by the Rixos President Astana Hotel.
The general producer of The Spirit of Tengri project and The Spirit of Dance show Zhan Kasteev said that the project had been prepared for a year: “We first started working with the musical content. This is also ethnic, but in dance. And this dance is encrusted with elegant electronic ethnic music. In the world there has been no such product yet: when Georgian dance flows into Kazakh, Kazakh - into Latvian, Latvian - into Irish, and vice versa. We too are very much looking forward to this show - we want to see how what we have invented will look like."
"The project has been prepared for a year. In no country have ever musicians and dancers been a single unit, we have collected them, they rehearsed among themselves, then between countries, and the last 3 days in Astana. Artists are also waiting for the audience- they are interested in the viewer’s reaction. It is important to present our national material in modern arrangement. It is necessary for us. The new generation should understand and perceive something from the past in their language. We show it in a new version, we are trying ti cover as much as possible. We need to fall in love, look for information. We will be fully satisfied when we get to know ourselves, love ourselves and not be ashamed of our identity. We do shows for the whole family. We want the Festival to live, get a start in life and annually take place in our country, in the center of Eurasia. We will make every effort for it," Kasteev added.
"Sound knows no boundaries, it is right at the very edge of eternity. Dance is sensuality itself, it fills every movement with meaning. Together they are able to create worlds and overcome any distance. This is the basic concept. The Spirit of Dance is not just a festival, not just a concert. It's a colorful conceptual, multi-faceted show filled with deep meaning. We invite you to travel through time and space, through oceans, lands that have never been explored. Each number is a lifetime through the eyes of the best performers in this genre. The Spirit of Dance is a story telling. It proves the universal language - the language of music and dance, " the chief director of the show Sergei Maiboroda described the ideas.
"There will be a grandiose show tonight. Interlacing of different cultures of the world, multi-level stage, modern lighting effects, different visuals, almost 100 participants from 14 countries of the world. Many are here for the first time. In the hall there are 2,500 seats, almost all the tickets are sold, but there's still a chance to get to the 3.5-hour show. During a small break, you will be able to get to know the skills of our artisans," the festival's chief administrator, Konstantin Golovin, concluded.
On the eve of the show for Radio Astana, the participants of the so-called unnamed Lithuanian-Buryat project, which included Lithuanians Laurita Pelenuite, Tadas Desukas, and Buryat performer of throat singing Alexander Arkhincheyev, told about themselves and their work.
"We will present a joint project of Buryatia and Lithuania. We combine cultures with music - Buryat throat singing and Lithuanian style of sutertenis. It is The Spirit of Tengri Project that united us. There have been already small tours in Georgia, Latvia and Lithuania, they were accompanied by workshops," Buryat artist Alexander Arkhincheyev says.
"Our project is a contrast of tambres: my delicate vocals and throat singing of Alexander, the duet of the violin and Morin-khuur ... Sasha is now a star in Lithuania, he was very warmly welcomed by us. I haven’t performed in Irkutsk yet" singer Laurita Pelenuite noted.
Zaza Vepkhvadze, Kakha Aslanishvili and Zurab Tskitishvili represent Georgian trio SiMi. The project has exsited for 30 years, they have visited 54 countries of the world, and came to Kazakhstan for the first time. The Festival's producer Zhan Kasteev personally flew to Tbilisi to call them to Astana.
"Hello, Kazakhstan! We are from Georgia, we have brought folk and city songs of Georgia. Polyphony singing is a hallmark of Georgia. We will perform together with a new ensemble for us. We know that the highlight of the program will be Ajarian dance, which was created specifically for this Festival. We have been rehearsing for the Show for 1.5 months. We like it very much in Astana: the people are warm, the weather is cold, the architecture is new. And we also know and are proud that the soloist of the Kazakhstan band A'Studio is Georgian,” trio members collectively told.
"Hello! We are ZeMe group from Latvia: I am Oldes, this is Laima. We have prepared three dances - three Latvian national songs in a new arrangement. There will also be two dances with a Latvian dancer and one dance with a Kazakh dancer. We perform with the Latvian national instrument Kokle. It is special for us. Every day the world becomes smaller and smaller, we find each other more often and easier. Such festivals are very important for us to get to know each other and share information, music, culture, traditions," electronic DJ Monsta, whose real name is Olde Kirulis, said.
“When we arrived in Kazakhstan, we found that our traditions are very close. We were at the museum and saw an instrument very similar to kokle — also made of wood, also seven strings, also a very pleasant sound. It is called Zhetygen,” the composer and virtuoso master of kokle, traditional Latvian folk string plucked instrument, Laima Jansone shared.
Traditionally, the online broadcast of The Spirit of Dance can be viewed on Tengrinews.kz, as well as on the official channel The Spirit of Tengri on YouTube. For those who are planning to drive to the concert tonight, the organizers have prepared a map indicating the parking lot.
Recall that the multimedia show The Spirit of Dance is conceived as an incredible performance with the participation of world stars in the music and dance scene. It will run in the format of "seamless show", which means non-stop. The audience should expect for many surprises: a unique three-level stage, a light show, multimedia accompaniment and live sound.
The main participants at the Festival of music and dance The Spirit of Dance will be small dance groups from around the world. Their task is to show the modern adaptation of their national dance. the dances will be intertwined among peoples: the Georgian dance will flow into Kazakh, and the Kazakh dance will turn into Indian dance. And all of them will be performed accompanied by completely different music: for example, the Irish tap dance will combine with Uzbek melodies. The organizers specially chose very recognizable national dance to show how they can be presented in a new way.
One piece from each country will last 20-30 minutes, between the pieces, the audience will see solo performances of world-class ethno artists. The guests of the Festival and the viewers of the online broadcast are waiting for an unusual symbiosis of different cultures, which they have never seen before. Earlier it became known about the participation of artists from Georgia, Ireland, India, Latvia and Canada.
